Wu Huajing was 17 years old and had a simple dream: to become a doctor and save lives.
In 2012, in Guangzhou, China, a traffic accident took that possibility away from her. But before she died, she left a very clear final wish: she wanted to donate her organs. Her parents, in the midst of the greatest pain a family can feel, respected her decision. Her liver, both kidneys, and both corneas went to five people who are still alive today thanks to her.
There was one moment that sums it all up. Before the surgeries began, the medical team silently bowed in front of Wu, in a gesture of respect that was photographed forever. She never graduated, never signed a diploma, but fulfilled her purpose in another way: saving lives without ever having set foot in an operating room as a doctor. Sometimes the legacy we leave behind weighs more than the years we did not get to live.
