Scientists discovered in Northern Ireland a strange fungus capable of turning spiders into “zombies”. The organism chemically manipulates the arachnids to force them to leave their hiding places and move toward locations where the parasite can spread more easily.
After that, the fungus kills the spider, mummifies its body, and begins feeding on it from the inside. Finally, it sprouts from the corpse to release spores into the air and continue the cycle with new victims. 💀
The discovery quickly sparked comparisons with the story of The Last of Us and opened new investigations into this unsettling type of parasite. 🫣
