If you thought dolphins spent their free time doing pretty flips and eating little fish… get ready to see their more “party-loving” and unusual side. 🐬🎈😂

A team of scientists led by zoologist Rob Pilley discovered truly mind-blowing behavior in the ocean: young dolphins gather in groups to catch pufferfish and use them to… get into a trance!

It turns out these marine mammals discovered that the potent neurotoxin released by the pufferfish to defend itself has a narcotic effect when consumed in microscopic doses. That’s why, with astonishing delicacy, the dolphins pass the pufferfish from mouth to mouth, gently chewing it to release the substance without harming the fish.

The result? Once they get their dose, the dolphins enter a state of absolute relaxation, floating belly-up near the surface as they gaze in a daze at their own reflection in the water.
