Francisco Huizar met Danielle King at a BMX biking event in New York in August 2015. She was already married to Keith King, the owner of the company sponsoring the show. But neither of them cared. Huizar managed to show up on every trip, at every spa, for every birthday, and thus maintain a secret relationship.
The tension escalated until it was caught on video: Keith confronted Huizar, who grabbed him by the neck in front of Danielle, who could be heard lamenting in the background. The recording went viral and ended up becoming key evidence in a North Carolina court, where a law allowing people to sue anyone who destroys someone else’s marriage for alienation of affection remains in effect.
On July 26, 2018, Judge Orlando Hudson ordered Huizar to pay 2 million dollars in compensation and another 6,8 million in damages, nearly 9 million in total. He was found guilty of criminal conversation, alienation of affection, and assault. Keith King, 48 years old and the father of a 5-year-old girl, called it “a hollow victory”: the money arrived, but his marriage had already been destroyed.
