An unusual moment took place during an official ceremony of the Chilean Navy when, as the “Second Training Course for Canine Handler Teams” was coming to a close, a drug-sniffing dog lunged directly at the pants pocket of Vice Admiral Arturo Oxley, surprising those present and later going viral on social media.

The institution explained that the dog’s reaction may have been due to its age, temperament, and level of activation, because dogs trained to detect substances are used to following their instincts and reacting to stimuli that go unnoticed by the human eye, and in this case the vice admiral’s pocket probably aroused the animal’s curiosity or instinct.

According to the Navy, the vice admiral was not injured and only ended up with tears in his uniform, while the dog is in good condition and undergoing retraining, because despite the incident, drug-sniffing dogs remain a fundamental tool for security and the fight against drug trafficking.
