An unexpected gust of wind changed everything in seconds. Bruce, a German shepherd, was on Bamburgh beach in northern England when the inflatable kayak where he was resting shot out to sea. His owner, Arron, jumped into the water and swam after it — but the currents were faster than he was. He had to turn back and return to shore to call the Coast Guard. 🌊
What followed was a race against time. Captain Jimmy Reid and his crew member Aaron Fordy, from Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, set out to look for him. Forty minutes of searching with no sign of him, until Aaron spotted something in the distance: the kayak. They approached slowly… and then, from among the inflatable material, a head appeared. Bruce was alive. They tried to pull him out by the harness, but the dog slipped free and fell back into the sea. Aaron did not hesitate: he jumped overboard and grabbed him by the neck. Jimmy held Aaron by the leg. All three came out of the water together. 🐾
When Bruce got on board, they wrapped him in towels. His tail was wagging. Arron met him on shore with a phrase that says it all: “I don’t know what I would have done if they hadn’t found him.” 🥹
