A woman was injured by a shotgun outside a convenience store in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, after an unexpected discharge prompted a police response.

The woman was near the location when a pickup truck arrived in the parking lot. In the back seat was a dog that began moving from side to side and somehow triggered a loaded shotgun that was inside the vehicle. The shot went through one of the truck’s doors and one of the pellets struck the woman’s arm. She was taken to a hospital, although her injuries were not serious.

A case that began as a possible armed attack and ended with a culprit as improbable as it was unexpected.
