Dolly Parton died on August 25, 2026, in Nashville, at the age of 80.
Her family announced it with a simple video on Instagram. They did not give a cause of death. They only said she passed away peacefully.
She was the fourth of twelve siblings, raised in a Tennessee cabin without hot water. Her father paid the doctor who delivered her with a sack of flour. From there came one of the greatest voices the world had ever heard.
She wrote “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” on the same night. She won Grammys, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and built Dollywood, her own park, in the town where she had grown up barefoot.
She created the Imagination Library and sent free books to millions of children who, like her once, had almost nothing. In 2025, she lost Carl, her husband of 59 years. Just four days before her death, she had said that she still had things left to accomplish.
She did not say goodbye with a show or one last round of applause. She said goodbye the way she lived: grateful, generous, and singing to the world until the very end.
