Dolly and Carl Dean discussed it as soon as they got married in 1966. They even named the daughter they imagined: Carla. 👶

But Dolly’s body had other plans. Endometriosis caused such severe pain that in 1984 she had to undergo a partial hysterectomy. That day, the possibility of becoming a biological mother was closed off forever, and she herself confessed years later: “I went through a dark period until I managed to get out of it”. 🌙

She never adopted either, absorbed in her career and raising her younger siblings. But she found another way to be a mother: she became the “Great-Aunt” of dozens of nieces and nephews and donated more than 100 million books to children around the world through her foundation.

This Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at age 80, Dolly Parton died at her home in Nashville. 💔
