Dolly Parton set conditions for recording a song with Sabrina Carpenter

Dolly Parton wouldn’t record anything that went against her principles. When Sabrina Carpenter invited her to join the remix of “Please Please Please” for the deluxe edition of “Short n’ Sweet”, the country legend laid her cards on the table before agreeing.

She told Knox News herself in March 2025: “I don’t cuss… I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t talk badly about God, and I don’t swear on camera, although I can if they make me angry enough”. Because of those rules, the strong word Carpenter had in the original chorus disappeared, and in its place came the line “please, don’t embarrass me like the others”.

The remix was released on February 14, 2025, and joined Parton’s latest collaborations before her death, such as those she did with Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus. Amid generations so different, the queen of country made it clear that there are lines she isn’t willing to cross even for a duet.
