Dolly Parton died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80.
In her final months, she was working on the Life of Many Colors Museum, a space in Nashville designed to tell every chapter of her story: from her humble childhood to her reign in country music. She designed it with the same care she used to write her songs, but cancer advanced faster than the construction.
Just eleven days earlier, she could no longer walk to the stage at Dollywood and participated by video call, dizzy and dehydrated. She died at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving the museum closed as her last story she never got to finish telling.
