“Don’t fall, don’t fall!” can be heard in the video as a surfer paddles desperately to get away from the fin slicing through the surface of the water.
Tavis Boise filmed the moment from his hydrofoil board while his friend Ron Takeda was being chased by a shark off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
The animal wouldn’t go away; it stayed just a few meters from the board, as if it were playing or waiting for a moment of carelessness. Takeda kept his cool and continued paddling until he finally reached shore.
According to reports, the chase lasted about five minutes. “Luckily, we came out of it unharmed,” Boise wrote when sharing the video on his Instagram account, where it has already racked up thousands of views.
