A young foreign woman was sitting quietly on a bench in Alanya, Turkey, with her dog by her side. Then he appeared: a supposedly drunk man who came up without asking permission.
She warned him in English, loud and clear: the dog could bite him if he kept coming closer. He didn’t care. He touched it anyway, and when she tried to push him away, the man blurted out the phrase that changed everything: “Yallah, get out of here. I’m going to cut it”. A death threat against a defenseless animal, said with the same calmness as ordering a coffee.
The video, recorded on the young woman’s own cellphone, has already racked up millions of views and sparked a wave of outrage on social media. According to her Instagram account, the harassment lasted more than 4 minutes, including insults and even a spit. So far it is not known whether the attacker was identified or whether he is facing charges. The dog is fine. The question still hanging in the air is another one: why didn’t anyone intervene sooner?
