Hugo was driving along Carrascal Avenue in Quinta Normal shortly after 7:00 in the morning, in the fog and before sunrise, when a little dog crossed his path. He thought it would stop. It didn’t. To avoid hitting it, he turned the wheel, drove up onto the curb, and the tire struck a raised bump he hadn’t seen, causing the car to overturn. He emerged unharmed and attributed the miracle to his seat belt.

What people talked about most was his reaction: “the car can be fixed, but the little dog can’t”. Hugo said on the morning show Tu Día that he adopted a dog, Guillermo, who kept him company when he was alone after his separation. As for the little dog he saved, all that is known is that it is alive: after the accident, it disappeared.
For some, Hugo did what any compassionate person would do. For others, swerving at that speed could have cost him his life, and the rule is not to make sudden maneuvers. Would you brake or swerve to avoid a dog?
