A shocking case of child neglect has shaken the community of Daytona Beach, Florida, after authorities discovered a couple completely unconscious on the sand. The incident occurred when Volusia County sheriff’s deputies went to the beach after receiving an alert about two people in an obvious state of intoxication. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Alyssia Langley and her fiancé, Timothy Stephens, both 27 years old, fast asleep and surrounded by empty beer cans, a liquor bottle, and various children’s toys.
The most alarming part of the situation occurred when officers managed to wake the couple. When questioned about the children’s whereabouts, neither of them seemed to have the slightest idea where they were. In a moment of confusion and desperation, the man began shouting while searching for the little ones along the seashore, fearing the worst. Fortunately, authorities were able to determine that the minors, ages 5 and 7, were not in the ocean, but were instead swimming on their own in the hotel pool where the family was staying.
The situation quickly escalated into physical tension when both adults were arrested and handcuffed at the scene. While the couple argued heatedly with each other, Stephens — who acts as the children’s legal guardian — tried to flee by running down the beach. However, his escape lasted only a few meters: because of his condition, he tripped and slammed violently into the sand, losing consciousness from the impact. After being evaluated at a hospital, he was transferred to the county jail and now faces charges of child neglect, alcohol possession, and attempted escape, while the mother also faces serious charges for endangering her children’s lives through neglect.
