The funniest part is that they spent years believing that crush had been completely one-sided.
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves met while filming Speed in 1994. Their chemistry worked so well on screen that for years, many fans imagined something might have happened between them off set. But, as they later revealed, they never actually had a relationship.
In 2018, Sandra appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and ended up confessing that she had a crush on Keanu during filming. She said she thought he was very sweet and handsome, and that sometimes she had a hard time keeping a straight face when he looked at her.
Up to that point, it seemed like the typical story of an unrequited crush.
But a few months later, in 2019, Keanu appeared on the same show, and Ellen showed him Sandra’s confession. His response changed the story completely: “She obviously didn’t know I was in love with her too”.
When asked why nothing ever happened between them, Keanu gave a much less romantic explanation than expected: they were working.
They were never a couple, but their friendship survived. They shared the screen again in The Lake House in 2006, and decades after Speed, they still speak very fondly of each other.
In the end, Sandra thought Keanu didn’t feel the same way. Keanu thought exactly the opposite. And they needed 25 years to discover that they had both been wrong.
