Ed Sheeran finally got the chance to meet one of his great idols: Lionel Messi. The singer was so excited that, when he had the Argentine in front of him, he simply started talking to him.
And he talked quite a lot.
Sheeran said that for about three minutes he praised Messi nonstop, telling him how incredible he was and convinced that the two of them were having a thoroughly pleasant conversation.
The problem was that there was one small detail the musician didn’t know.
In the middle of the encounter, someone from Messi’s team came over and whispered in his ear: “He doesn’t speak English”.
That’s when Sheeran understood what was happening: while he had been talking to the Argentine star for several minutes, Messi was simply smiling and nodding politely without understanding practically anything he was saying.
The scene, which could easily have ended up being awkward, became one of those anecdotes Sheeran will probably never forget.
And just imagine being Ed Sheeran, meeting Messi for the first time, having three minutes to tell him everything you think of him… and discovering afterward that your great conversation was, in reality, a monologue. 😂
Messi, meanwhile, did what he does best: smile, stay calm, and let the English run its course.
