Debbie Nelson, Eminem’s mother, felt so attacked by a line in the song ‘My Name Is’ that she decided to take her own son to court. She sought 10 million dollars for defamation, convinced that the rapper had crossed a line by implying in the lyrics that she used more drugs than he did.

The court ruled in her favor… but not as she expected. In 1999, the case ended with an amount of just 25,000 dollars in her favor, far from the millions she was seeking.

And that is not where the incredible part ends: her lawyer kept 23,354 dollars in fees, leaving Nelson with a final balance of only 1,645.75 dollars. 😳

Ten million sought, less than 2,000 dollars in her pocket. Sometimes winning a lawsuit does not mean winning anything.
