A dog received medications intended for cattle from Ernesto López Medina, who practiced as a veterinarian without the required degree, according to the Prosecutor’s Office investigation. The case took place in Flandes, Tolima.

When the owners complained, López Medina performed a purported euthanasia. The investigation attributed the use of unauthorized substances to the procedure, including Varsol and cyanide. The dog was then buried while still alive, according to the case file.

The Second Municipal Court of Flandes sentenced López Medina to 12 months in prison for the dog’s death. It also imposed a fine equivalent to five current legal monthly minimum wages and a ban on keeping animals.
