Authorities let a dangerous man go free, and the next day he ended the life of Reinaldo Jesus Lefonts, a 68-year-old grandfather who was stabbed in a parking lot.

The killer, Giovanni Navarro, had been arrested at that same location less than 24 hours earlier for trespassing. But because of legal loopholes, he was released immediately.

After getting out, he returned to the parking lot and attacked Reinaldo while he was charging his electric car. But that was not all: while paramedics were treating him, another man stole the ambulance because it did not have an anti-theft system. Every second mattered, and Reinaldo died at the scene without being able to be transported.

Now his family is demanding US$ 40 million from the city for a tragedy that could have been prevented.
