On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Amanda Santos was returning home to her house in the Cidade Nova neighborhood of Salvador, Brazil, when she learned that it was engulfed in flames.
She was 43 and had lived there for two decades with her husband, Gilmar, and their two children. The fire, which firefighters brought under control without anyone being injured, took everything: the sofa, the refrigerator, the washing machine, the computer, even the video game console her children had dreamed of having. Everything was reduced to ashes except one thing.
In the midst of the disaster, a Bible that had been resting in the living room was left without a single burn mark. Neither the heat nor the smoke touched it. “A mystery from God that shows us that not even fire can extinguish his word”, Amanda said, still shocked. The family suspects that a short circuit in a fan started the fire, and today they are living at Amanda’s brother’s house, still not knowing how to rebuild what they lost.
