Michael Douglas wasn’t wearing underwear that day in 1987, over a kitchen sink, filming the most remembered scene of his career.
That’s what Adrian Lyne, the director of ‘Fatal Attraction’, said during a special screening at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. He revealed that there is a single frame in which one of the actor’s testicles can be seen, and it is so brief that it went completely unnoticed by audiences for 39 years. “There is a single frame, just one”, Lyne said with a laugh. And even knowing about it, the team decided not to cut it: “It was so quick that you couldn’t notice it.”
Douglas, they say, even asked his director if he was sure about filming the scene that way. We already know the answer: the film was released, swept up six Oscar nominations, and became a classic. And that small oversight remained there, hidden in plain sight, waiting 37 years to come to light.
