While Mexico celebrated the World Cup, a father was handing out photos of his missing daughter… but almost no one stopped to look at him

While thousands celebrated the start of the 2026 World Cup in Mexico City, a man walked through the crowd handing out sheets with a photo of his missing daughter. 😣

The scene hit hard on social media because of the contrast: jerseys, chants, and flags on one side; on the other, a father trying to get someone to stop for a few seconds and look at the face of the person he is still searching for.

Many people avoided him or rejected the paper without stopping, and that made the video even more painful. In the middle of football’s biggest celebration, his search stood as a reminder of the thousands of families living with an absence that is impossible to bring to a close.

On social media, some users believe it could be José Luis Castillo Carreón, a father who has spent 16 years searching for his daughter Esmeralda, but there is no certainty. The only thing that is clear is that, while everyone was watching the World Cup, he only wanted someone to look at his daughter’s photo. 💔
