Nick Tomasso didn’t plan any of it.
In 2014, in New Jersey, he put on a Batman shirt and put another matching one on his newborn son, Jackson, just to take a photo in the chair in the baby’s room. The following year, they repeated it without thinking too much. It was only the third time that Nick, 44, realized he had inadvertently started something he wasn’t going to let go.
Since then, Jackson gets a new Batman shirt every year, while his dad keeps and puts on the original again, already worn down over time. Eleven photos later, with 11-year-old Jackson in sixth grade, Nick decided to share the complete collage on Reddit. He didn’t expect it to go viral, but people recognized in those shirts something that almost all parents fear: how quickly children grow up. “Just be there for them,” Nick said. Eleven years later, that shirt is still saying the same thing.
