Jhon Jairo Guerrero is a caretaker on a farm north of Popayán, Colombia, and every morning he does the same thing: he gets his bicycle ready to take Aylin Esperanza, his 6-year-old daughter, to Carlos Simmons School.
Since he had no way to buy her a special seat, he took a Rimax-style plastic chair and installed it on the back of his bicycle so the girl could ride more comfortably along the way. The image was captured by journalist Óscar Solarte, and that was enough to move thousands of people on social media.
Aylin dreams of becoming a veterinarian and accompanies her dad even in the farm work, milking cattle and feeding animals. Jhon Jairo calls her “my little companion”, and although his financial situation is not easy, every pedal stroke toward that school is his way of telling her that he will do whatever it takes to give her a better future.
