José Alfredo, 55, took a bladed weapon—described as a saber—and attacked Víctor before anyone could stop him in time. María threw herself in front of her partner to defend him and was struck on the hand: she lost three fingers in the attempt.
Víctor died from his injuries while being transported to Saltillo. José Alfredo fled, but hours later he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Agency and held in the city’s men’s prison, accused of aggravated homicide and intentional injuries.
