Gregory Talbert, a man from Memphis, brought his 18-year-old son Michael before Judge Eboni K. Williams’ court with an unusual lawsuit. He was demanding the money he had invested in a “conversion” program. Talbert decided to enroll the young man in that course after finding him kissing a friend.

The plaintiff claims that the young man “did not complete the treatment,” while Michael admitted that he agreed to participate only under the threat of being kicked out of his home after revealing his sexual orientation.

The judge harshly questioned the validity of the claim, pointing out the psychological harm and the lack of real consent in a case that has outraged social media for its cold, financial approach.
