Mr. Brett Yancey, who died in October 2024 at 48 years of age after seven years battling esophageal cancer, managed to walk the 50 meters across Southside High School’s football field.
The proud father’s goal was to accompany his daughter Sarakate, who is currently 19 years old, at the moment she was named homecoming queen. His 50-year-old wife Carrie Yancey told PEOPLE magazine about the enormous physical effort the former coach made after refusing to use a mobility cart at the ceremony.
