“We do not want to attack them, hate them, or put them down. We only need them by our side”. That is how Priyanka Chopra explained why, for her, feminism should not be understood as a battle between women and men, but as a pursuit of equality in which both have a role.
The actress spoke about the subject in 2016 during an interview with Refinery29, where she stated that a mistaken interpretation of the movement still exists. According to Priyanka, supporting women’s rights does not mean wanting to take space or rights away from men, but ensuring that women receive the same treatment and opportunities.
She also explained that being a feminist, for her, means being able to make decisions about her own life without being judged differently simply for being a woman. A freedom she considers normal when it comes to a man, but that is still often questioned when the person making the decision is a woman.
That is why she insisted that men are also necessary to achieve real change. Equality does not require them to lose so that women can win; it requires them to understand why differences still exist and decide to stand by their side to change them.
