Flight attendant saved a baby who was slipping from his sleeping mother’s lap and held him for the rest of the flight to give the exhausted mom a break

The baby was slipping from his mother’s lap, and no one else noticed in time.

It was United flight 3486, from Newark to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The first-time mother, exhausted, had fallen asleep without realizing that her son was losing his balance. Monique Harris, a Republic Airways flight attendant, acted quickly: she caught the child and decided not to hand him back right away. She held him herself so the woman could finish her nap in peace.

A passenger named John Frehse photographed the moment and uploaded it to Instagram. The post received over 170.000 likes, and even United and Republic Airways left messages expressing their pride in Harris. She tearfully replied that she had never sought recognition, that she was just being herself. Sometimes the simplest gesture—holding a sleeping baby—is the one that stays with people the most.
