Andrea had her daughter Alana’s body beneath hers when rescue teams found them among the rubble. With no vital signs. The baby, one year and eight months old, was alive. 🕊️

The earthquake that shook the state of La Guaira, Venezuela, brought down the tower where the family of footballer Héctor “Kike” Bello, defender for Marítimo de La Guaira, lived. He was not in the building at the time. When he learned what had happened, he posted on Instagram what no parent should ever have to write: “Andrea, how do I explain to our daughter that you gave your life to save hers and that I wasn’t there to do anything?”. He then described his pain with a precision that hurts to read: “I am bleeding out without having wounds; I am breathing, but I have no air in my lungs”. 💔

Alana is out of danger and stable in a hospital in La Guaira, with a bandage on her arm and a bruised eye. “You will always be our favorite heroine, Mom”, Bello wrote. “I will tell her the story of how you saved her, how you were a brave woman who, even with your last breath, never abandoned her”. 🤍
