Alana Rosa, a 20-year-old Brazilian woman, came out of an induced coma after suffering a violent attack carried out by Luis Felipe Sampaio, a man she had met at a local gym and who lashed out at her after she rejected his invitation to go out.

While the victim struggles to recover, outrage is growing not only because of the brutality of the incident but also because of the reaction on social media, where videos have emerged promoting these actions under the slogan “what to do when she says no”. In the clips, mannequins are used to recreate the assault, offering a chilling example of a culture of hate that normalizes abuse against women who exercise their right to choose.

The case has raised alarms in Brazil and around the world about the danger faced by those who reject an invitation and how some social sectors reinforce this type of criminal behavior.
