A one-year-old boy had been coughing, running a fever, and suffering from colds for nearly two months, so he had been treated at several hospitals and even treated for pneumonia.
However, when he arrived at GMERS Gotri Hospital in Vadodara, an X-ray revealed the real cause: a small LED bulb approximately one centimeter in size.
The bulb was lodged in his right bronchus, completely blocking the flow of air to that lung, which was on the verge of collapsing.
Doctors performed an emergency bronchoscopy to remove the object. The bulb had been inside his airways for more than a month and had already become embedded in the tissues.
Removing it without damaging the trachea posed a major challenge. Ultimately, they managed to extract it in less than a minute, and the child was kept under observation in the ICU. As the days passed, airflow to the affected lung returned and his symptoms improved considerably.
