For years, the rumor circulated like an urban legend: Dolly Parton’s breasts, as iconic as her voice, were supposedly insured for millions of dollars.

In January 2022, seated in front of the cameras on the Today show, the 76-year-old singer decided to put the story to rest once and for all.

She said it all started as a joke, inspired by Betty Grable, the classic actress famous for insuring her legs, and Heidi Klum, who had said hers were covered for 2 million dollars.

Dolly repeated the joke so many times in past interviews that it ended up becoming a myth that even she could no longer control.

The reality, she said in front of the cameras, is much less glamorous: she never signed a policy, there was never a million-dollar figure, and the contract never existed.

Just a joke that the press took far too seriously and that Dolly herself had to deny, smiling, almost fifty years later.
