He grew up in a Christian family in the United States and, according to his account, had felt an attraction he didn’t dare name since seventh grade. He carried that conflict in silence for years, until tenth grade, when he told his parents: “I think I’m homosexual”. His father burst into tears, not because of the news, but because he realized his son had faced all of that alone.

At 23, he began a relationship with another man and, for several years, lived what he himself describes as a homosexual life. But he felt increasingly lost, depressed, and alone. When the relationship ended, he lost all his possessions and returned to his old home empty-handed. There, on his knees, he says he cried out to God and replied: “I’m yours again”.

Then came the process: professional counseling, religious programs, and a Master of Divinity degree from Azusa Pacific University in 2008. Six years later, he met Amanda, and they married in 2009.
Today they have three children, Aliah, Ryker, and Asher. Domen has served as a pastor since 2004, founded Church United, and wrote the book Not A Mistake, in which he advises parents to love and support their children, even if their beliefs differ.

His story continues to spark debate over his views on sexuality, religion, and parenting. What do you think?
