“Brother, I’m rich now. I don’t need to run at all”. According to Fred, that was Jhon Durán’s response when he encouraged him to go to training at Fenerbahçe.
The Brazilian, now at Atlético Mineiro and formerly of Manchester United, told the story on Charla Podcast, in Brazil, amid laughter and in a tone more like a locker-room anecdote than a reproach.
According to his account, after dropping that line, Durán would go to the medical department to slack off. At first he did train, but as the weeks went by, he stopped showing up altogether.
Fred also clarified that Durán is a good person and very jokey, and that he thinks he’s going to be a father. He said he hopes Durán has calmed down and settled in now.
When the Colombian went to Zenit in Russia, he told Fred, who jokingly replied that he’d earn more there. He told him: “I’ve completely set myself, my family, and three generations after me up for life”.
