How many times have you changed phones just because the battery no longer lasted at all? 🔋 Starting on February 18, 2027, that could be history — at least in Europe.
The European Union approved Regulation 2023/1542, a rule requiring that all cell phones and tablets sold in the bloc have batteries that users themselves can remove and replace with simple tools, like a screwdriver. No specialized repair shops, no exorbitant costs, no depending on the brand to give you permission to touch your own device. The law also requires manufacturers to supply replacement batteries for several years after a model leaves the market, and to offer parts and repair service for up to 10 years. 🔧
Apple and Samsung, which today use completely sealed designs, will feel the biggest impact. They will have to rethink their phones from the inside out. The EU’s goal is clear: reduce electronic waste and make sure a good cell phone lasts much longer than its original battery. ♻️ Do you think the rest of the world should follow this example?
