In 2010, Sandra Bullock was 45 years old when she was finally able to fulfill one of the wishes she had held onto for years: becoming a mother. She adopted Louis Bardo Bullock, a baby from New Orleans, and from their very first meeting she felt there was something special between them. “He is perfect; I can’t describe him any other way. It’s as if he had always been part of our lives”, the actress said.

Louis’s story began long before he came into her arms. After Hurricane Katrina, Sandra said something inside her told her that “my son was there”. Years later, that intuition became reality.
Over time, the actress also realized that motherhood would completely change her priorities. “My life was nothing until you came along“, she said of her children. She even decided to step away from movies temporarily to spend more time with them: “I’d rather look at them every day and make memories with them“.

Louis grew up away from the spotlight and is now an extremely private teenager. Sandra describes him as sensitive, wise, kind, and passionate about food. In 2015, he also played a key role when the family welcomed Laila, his younger sister, who was also adopted.

And perhaps that’s why the phrase that circulated online for years sums up so well what many people feel about adoption: “You may not have my eyes, you may not have my smile, but you have all of my heart”. The phrase has not been confirmed as an authentic quote from Sandra, but the sentiment behind it connects with a story the actress has told time and again: for her, Louis didn’t come into her life as “an adopted child”; he came as her son.
