She did not speak about protocol. She spoke about God, family, and what she believes is missing from the education of Colombian children.

“We have to bring God back to schools and remove gender ideology so that our children grow up protected”, said the future first lady, wife of president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, who will take office on August 7.

Pineda, a former attorney general with a history of conservative positions, had previously promoted a referendum to restrict adoption by same-sex couples.

This went viral almost immediately and reopened a debate Colombia knows well: how much space religion should occupy in classrooms, and what protecting childhood really means.
