Gary Siders Sr. is 73 years old and has a diagnosis that changed the course of his case.
On June 30, 2026, police in Vinton County, Ohio, found 16 of his grandchildren, ages 1 to 18, living crammed into a room measuring barely 12 by 12 feet inside the family home in the Hamden area. The conditions were so deplorable that the case became known as the ‘house of horrors.’ Alongside Siders Sr., his wife Christina, his son Gary Jr. and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth, the parents of the minors, were arrested.
This Wednesday, September 9, a judge accepted a forensic psychiatric evaluation and determined that Siders Sr. is not fit to stand trial. Prosecutor William Archer did not even challenge the result. His attorney, Dorian Baum, was unequivocal: his client’s condition is irreversible, so the case against him will likely be closed soon. Meanwhile, his wife, son and daughter-in-law remain behind bars facing up to 16 counts of child abuse, and all 16 children remain in state custody.
