Actress Carrie Fisher, who brought Princess Leia to life in Star Wars, said this in an interview with The Advocate. Behind it was a childhood story: her mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, worked with dancers who were part of her shows, so Carrie grew up surrounded by gay men.

From a very young age, she formed a special bond with them. As she recounted, they felt comfortable around her, and that connection to the LGBTQ+ community stayed with her throughout her life. With her sharp humor and direct way of speaking, she often talked about love and relationships without much of a filter.

That was her experience, of course, and every friendship is different: trust doesn’t depend on anyone’s sexual orientation, but on respect and loyalty.
