The baby gazelle couldn’t go on any longer. It kicked frantically in the pond at La Aurora Zoo, in Guatemala, with its head barely above the water, with no one from its herd nearby to help.
Then Trompita appeared. The elephant approached slowly, stretched out her trunk, and searched for the gazelle’s horn to grab hold of it. The first attempt failed: she lost her grip and the baby sank again. But Trompita didn’t leave. She tried again, and this time she managed to lift it up and pull it out of the water.
A group of visitors, including a school field trip, recorded everything on their phones. The elephant can be seen staying beside the gazelle for a moment, as if checking that it was okay, before letting it run back to its herd. The video has already racked up millions of views around the world. 🐘
