Liv Tyler spent part of her childhood without knowing that Steven Tyler was really her father. And the way she ended up discovering it seems straight out of a movie.
The actress was born in 1977 and during her early years believed that musician Todd Rundgren, her mother Bebe Buell’s former partner who took on a fatherly role in her life, was her biological father. In fact, she was born with the surname Rundgren.
Everything began to change when she met Steven Tyler as a child. Liv has said that she felt a connection with him that was difficult to explain, but something ultimately awakened her suspicions for good: meeting Mia Tyler, another of the Aerosmith vocalist’s daughters.
Liv was struck by the resemblance she felt existed between them. “It was like looking at my twin”, she recalled years later about that encounter. She finally spoke to her mother and discovered the truth: Steven Tyler was her biological father.
Over time, she adopted the surname Tyler and built a relationship with him, while Todd Rundgren continued to be an important figure in her life.
And perhaps that is why it is even more amusing that decades later the internet looks at Liv and Steven together and wonders how they can be father and daughter: for Liv herself, discovering that they were also came as quite a surprise.
