Do you agree? Ghana’s Parliament approved, for the second time, the controversial bill against the LGBTIQ+ community. The original proposal expired because former president Nana Akufo-Addo did not sign it in time.

The bill maintains a penalty of up to three years in prison for anyone who has sexual relations with someone of the same sex. In addition, it establishes punishments of between three and five years in prison for those who intentionally promote, sponsor, or support the activities of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Now, the document includes changes that protect doctors, journalists, and lawyers from going to prison for carrying out their duties. However, the opposition criticized the changes, arguing that the original version was “flawed”.

The final text awaits the signature of current president John Dramani Mahama to take effect.
