$61.38. That was how much Juliette Lamour had in her piggy bank when, at age 5, she decided to donate it all to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. It was January 2010, and the Canadian Red Cross had set up a donation table at a hockey game in Sault Ste. Marie. The Lamour sisters arrived in their jerseys and emptied out every cent. 🍀

Thirteen years later, in January 2023, on the day she turned 18, her grandfather made a simple suggestion: “You just turned 18, go buy a lottery ticket, try your luck.” Juliette had never bought one before, so she had to call her dad to find out how to do it.

She found out the result while she was working. Her coworkers were talking about a winning ticket from her city. She checked the app. A melody played. On the screen appeared: “Big Winner!” 🎉 Her colleague dropped to their knees. Juliette Lamour became the youngest Canadian to win a jackpot of that size: 48 million dollars.
