Under the rubble of a building in La Guaira, Venezuela, an 11-year-old girl did something no rescuer will ever forget. 💔
The members of Colombia’s USAR team heard her first: a clear, steady voice telling them that her mother and her brother Moisés, 9, were with her. They were on the fifth floor; the rescuers, on the eleventh. Each slab took two hours to break through. They calculated they would need ten hours to reach them. But the girl’s voice kept them moving forward: she told them her mother was okay, that she was okay, that she could already see their hand and a beam of light. “People were motivated because the girl gave clear signs of being alert”, one of the rescuers said through tears. 🕯️
When they finally opened a path to her, the girl had already stopped breathing, and so had her mother. Only Moisés was there, alive and well, the injured brother she talked about the whole time. “The girl handed over her brother and rested”, the rescuer said, unable to hold back his emotions. Moisés arrived at the hospital alive. His sister gave everything so that could be possible. 🙏
