It all began on a beautiful day at a park, where the woman and her 3-year-old daughter, Mary-Katherine were enjoying their time together. The place was relatively calm, except for a group of people celebrating a children’s birthday party in a nearby area.

The little girl, with her sweet sociable attitude, approached the other children and they played and laughed for more than half an hour without any major issue. Kat, happy to see her daughter having fun, assumed that the little girl had been well received by the group.
However, when it was time to serve the birthday cake, everything quickly changed. Mary-Katherine, excited to join the celebration, went up to ask for a slice, but to her surprise, the birthday child’s mother snatched the plate away from her and told her she couldn’t eat because she wasn’t invited and none of the children in the group were her friends.

The little girl was left confused and disappointed, not understanding why she had suddenly been excluded after having fun with them, and like any concerned mother, Kat was outraged by the way her daughter was treated.
“I approached to make sure she was okay, as a formality. Honestly, I was like, ‘obviously she’s fine. It’s cake. It’s a huge cake. There were going to be pieces left over‘”, the woman said.

“The mother takes the plate away from MK (her daughter), gets down to her level, and says: ‘You can’t eat this cake, okay? This is not your birthday party. These are not your friends. Where is your mother?'”, she recalled.
She felt powerless in the face of the cruelty of the birthday child’s mother and decided to turn to social media in search of guidance. She posted her experience and asked whether her reaction was overblown or whether she was actually right.
