Sebastián Solorza is 41 years old and holds one conviction: no one should tell him what positions he can or cannot hold in life.
You know him for playing ‘Tomy’ in ‘Cromosoma 21’, the role that earned him the Caleuche Breakthrough Performance Award in 2023. But in July 2025, he took a step no actor with Down syndrome had taken before in Chile: he announced that he wanted to become a presidential candidate. To do so, he needed to collect 35,000 signatures before the Electoral Service by August 18, the process that stands between any citizen and appearing on the ballot for the November 16 elections.
His mother, Jenny Solorza, with whom he still lives today, recalls that in the 1980s there was almost no medical information about Down syndrome in Chile. That gap is precisely what Sebastián decided to fill with his own story, running as an independent and, according to several media outlets, as the world’s first presidential hopeful with this condition.
