They never needed a wedding to feel like a family. And perhaps that’s precisely part of the secret.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell began their relationship in 1983, after reconnecting while working on Swing Shift. From then on, they built a life together, raised a blended family, and had Wyatt, their son together.
Even so, they never walked down the aisle.

Goldie has explained several times that, for them, commitment never depended on marriage. In fact, in a 2026 interview, she said that getting married could take away something they value a lot: the freedom to keep choosing each other.
The way she sees it is quite simple: “We want to choose each other every day”.
She has also said that she never liked the idea of feeling that a relationship means “belonging to” someone. For her, what has always mattered is the willingness to stay, even when there are arguments, difficult periods, and years that test any relationship.
More than four decades later, they are still together, surrounded by children and grandchildren, without having needed to change that initial decision very much.
There was never a wedding, but there was something considerably harder to sustain: the desire to keep choosing the same person over and over again.
