Goodbye, legend

Look at that face. It is not that of a defeated man: it is that of a man who loved something with everything he had.

There is no failure in this photo. There are twenty years of dedication condensed into a tear that slowly rolls down. Messi staring into the void, the silver medal hanging like a weight he did not choose, his face telling what words cannot convey.

Let us think of everything behind those tearful eyes. The boy who injected his legs every night to grow. The one who crossed an ocean at ten years old, alone, leaving everything behind. The one who lost three finals and endured being called cold-hearted. The one who came back, always came back, until he reached glory in Qatar.

And now, at 39 years old, this final tear. The tear of someone who knows it was the last time, that there will be no rematch, that the curtain has come down.

But there is something that photo screams without saying it: only someone who gave themselves completely cries like that. Tears are the exact measure of how much it mattered to him. And it mattered to Messi more than anyone.

Do not feel pity. Feel gratitude. Because behind that tear is a career that made us happy, that gave us magic when the world was gray, that taught entire generations what it means to love a jersey.

Let us keep this image. Not as that of the man who lost, but as that of the one who gave everything until the end.
Thank you, Leo. That tear is ours too. 🐐🇦🇷
